Little by little, I began to work on friends guitars and to this day, is more satisfying to me than playing them –sometimes!

The Stringwalker Lutherie Story

Back in 1972, I decided to experiment with a bass that I had just acquired. I had plenty of time as I wasn’t playing anywhere and it was a good winter project to do. I lived in Buffalo, N.Y. at the time. That winter, I learned more about basses and guitars than I ever imagined as I researched everything there was on the subject at local libraries. That was before the internet and so many places that offered parts to Hot Rod guitars and basses. I became employed as a machinist in 73’ and as I learned more about that Art, it was more and more evident how I was going to apply that knowledge to making things I needed for working on instruments. Little by little, I began to work on friends guitars and to this day, is more satisfying to me than playing them—– sometimes! In 1976 I came to LA. California where I was self employed as a working Bass player with many bands all over SOCAL. I was fortunate enough to work briefly for ‘Travis Bean Guitars’ where I worked in the neck shop which is the heart of the guitar. It’s been a wonderful experience learning my craft and it never ends with all of the new technology happening daily. It’s truly inspiring, the endless possibilities Now, due to the ever increasing demand, and access to so much hardware and information. I needed to start this endeavor as a way to establish my designs and dreams for the future. I hope you find this site informative and if there are any questions about anything that I can help you with, please e-mail me and I will return promptly with all that I can to do to help you.

Thanks, David Sprowl
